Oh btw, Sony shipped a replacement battery using next day air which is cool… I received the new battery within 15 hours. Also, the old battery that was damage now could not be recognised by the machine. It is practically a dead battery….. The new one is working great…

Recently, I have an issue with my sony vaio notebook battery. The battery is not performing as it used to. It charges really fast to 100% or I should say the charge suddenly jumps to a full charge. Then, without AC power, battery depletes in about 30 minutes or so…. The particular battery life is only 9 months…. It is not normal for it to discharge that fast… Therfore, I gave sony c.s. center a call. Since it is still in warranty, they agreed to replace my battery… so now with the new battery on, everything back to normal. Also, knowing that the largest LI-ION battery recall was from sony.. I will question more about the quality of sony battery … So far so good with the new battery…

Brought vehicle for 20,000 miles service. Complete vehicle tests showed no problems. I used to be changing oil and filters every 3000 miles, but this time I have decided to go for 5000 miles. Too often changing oil is not always good. It is also bad for the environment.. So, service charge is $50. A silver package car wash, including wash, sealer wax, tire dressing, under carriage, $19+tips for the hardworking workers. For everything else there is master card …

Tried to share internet connection from windows xp to nokia 6680 mobile phone. Spend two hours, and fail. The window applications that I tried on are bluesoil bluetooth on my desktop and bluetooth stack on my notebook. Enabled internet sharing, and setup modem port. Application used in my mobile phone is gnubox. I have not figure out yet what is the problem. The computer and phone is able to establish connection both ways, but somehow my phone is not getting any IP. I will try again when I got a chance…. I don’t need the internet sharing that badly either… If anyone successfully shared their internet connection to their nokia 6680 mobile phone please shine some light

Just for the fun of it, I am speed testing Cingular EDGE using SpeakEasy Speed Test based in Los Angeles, CA. The speeds that I got are…
First try result:
Download Speed: 199 kbps (24.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 88 kbps (11 KB/sec transfer rate)
Second try result:
Download Speed: 188 kbps (23.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 88 kbps (11 KB/sec transfer rate)
The download speed is reasonable because it is a little above the advertised speed of 75-135 kbps by Cingular. Feels like two to three times the speed of a good old dialup modem. I would perform another speed test when I got a chance. Maybe after a fresh boot, I could have gotten better numbers…

One of my computer occasionally does not hibernate. It bothers me a lot recently. When it is suppose to go for hibernation, an error occurs which says “Insufficient Systen Resources Exist to Complete this API”…. Oh my… plus I have recently fresh installed the windows xp in c drive. This occurs on my Vaio SZ370P. After searching for a solution, I came across KB909095 from Microsoft support site. The explained cause on the support site is “This problem occurs because the Windows kernel power manager cannot obtain the memory resources that are required to prepare the computer to hibernate.”…. Alright, so I installed the hotfix and whala! no more failed hibernation…everything is perfect…

I am still in love with my sony vaio sz notebook. I think I made a good choice and no regrets for the high sticker price. I am still enjoying the great wireless wide area network technology for my internet solution. But I would still expect the WWAN speed to increase significantly. Four to five times the speed of old days dial up is just not gonna do it… !

So today I picked up the phone and signed up for cingular WWAN. I am just curious how good is the WWAN technology. The sony vaio comes with 30 days trial of Cingular WWAN. The activation process took me less than 5 minutes and then boom I am up and running with WWAN. This is the first blog entry that I publish using WWAN. I have just tested the speed and it is about 212 kbps down and 86 kbps up. The price is 60 bucks a month with 2 years commitment. So, still a little pricey for that kind of speed. Otherwise, all is good considering that I am able to go online anywhere.

I am now waiting for my vehicle to be serviced. It is for her 15,000 miles service. My vehicle is now a year old. So on average I have driven about 1250 in a typical month, which I think is an average miles per month in southern california. The waiting room here is not so bad after all. It has a wireless internet to keep me entertained. So with my lightweight notebook and the wireless internet I am a happy person. They are doing the regular change of engine oil and filter, fuel cleaner, fuel and air induction service, replace air filter, check trans fluid, rotate tires and check pressure, and perform 28 point inspection. I was told that the service will take about 1.5 hours.
So while I was waiting, there is this one girl who strikes a conversation. She was wearing this blue hospital gown, which makes me wonder that she looks like a person who works in the operating room. So she asked me what service am I getting for my vehicle and is it free. My response to that is of course i am here for my 15000 miles service. When I heard that she said something free, I started to question her what is she doing here as well, she said she was offered a free car wash on her new vehicle. So I said congratulations on her new buy. She walked to get a cup of coffee and offered to shake hands and introduced her name. We have a great conversation for about 10 minutes and then I am set to go. So I said nice talking to her and hope to see her again. Nope, I did not ask her number. But for sure there is no free 15000 miles service, i paid about 200 bucks for it later on. I can feel that the vehicle has a much smoother ride… another happy ending…
